Sigma Kappa’s national philanthropy is the Sigma Kappa Foundation which encompasses a few different philanthropies such as Inherit the Earth, Gerontology, Maine Sea Coast Mission, and the Alzheimer’s Association. We support all of these philanthropies throughout the school year but our biggest focus at Auburn is with the Alzheimer’s Association. Sigma Kappa partners with the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in the fall and helps host the walk on Auburn University’s campus. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is something that is very special to many of our girls as a lot of sisters have a personal connection to Alzheimer’s. In America 1 out of 6 senior citizens will pass away from Alzheimer’s every year and we strive to fund research to lower that number. In the spring we put on Sigma Hold ‘Em which is a Texas Hold ‘Em style poker tournament in which all the proceeds go towards the Sigma Foundation. This past spring Sigma Kappa raised over $30,000 during this event. We are so proud of the dedication and passion that our girls show throughout the year in supporting all of our wonderful philanthropies!
